When is prometheus set

After being infected by an alien face-hugger, executive officer Kane played by John Hurt in Alien dies when an alien bursts through his chest.

It picks off the crew one by one, leaving Ripley Sigourney Weaver and Jones, the ship's cat, alive. Arriving with a military squad, they find the sole human survivor, Newt, more face-huggers, a swarm of aliens and a pretty badass Queen. There must be at least two face-huggers on board, though, and as they sleep one impregnates Ripley with a queen.

A fire starts somehow and the humans' life pod ejects, landing near a penal colony on Fiorina Only Ripley and one other facehugger survive. Ripley kills the resulting alien, then dies by suicide by jumping into a furnace. They surgically remove the alien queen in order to breed the species, which escape on board the Auriga, killing many. The resulting alien hybrid attempts to take them out one-by-one.

Ellen Ripley Sigourney Weaver takes on the alien. After drifting through space in stasis for 57 years, Ripley is saved. She tells her employers at the Weyland-Yutani Corporation that the Nostromo was attacked by an alien. The moon where the Nostromo crew discovered the alien is now a colony, and when Earth loses communication with it, Ripley joins an expedition to investigate.

They find the aliens have multiplied and attempt to save a little girl survivor named Newt Carrie Henn. Ripley and Newt and the others who escaped from the events of Aliens crash land on a penal colony made up of criminals with double Y chromosomes, a condition that makes them extra violent. In a horrifically memorable scene, Elizabeth is forced to have an automated Cesarean section to remove it without anesthesia.

Later in the film, a squid alien officially known as a Trilobite has grown considerably larger than the Engineer it captures, and ends up parasitically infecting the Engineer as well. This alien Xenomorph was faster than most, and ran on all fours, taking some traits from its canine host. In the directors cut of Alien 3 , we see a Xenomorph spawned from a bull. But keep all of this in mind when seeing Covenant. In Alien , we get a lone-wolf Xenomorph stalking the crew of a space ship on its return to Earth.

Rent or buy Aliens on Amazon Prime Video. The first misstep for the Alien franchise was this third entry, Alien 3 , directed by David Fincher, which was known to fall foul of studio interference. The action shifts to prison ship Fiorina , where Ellen Ripley crash lands with an Alien life form in tow, which begins picking off the violent male inmates. Rent or buy Alien 3 on Amazon Prime Video. And this is where the series really lost the plot. Alien: Resurrection is a thoroughly misguided sequel set many decades after the third movie, continuing the story with a super-powered Ripley clone.

Set more than years before the Alien series, Predator is very much a self-contained action movie — and an excellent one at that. Rent or buy Predator on Amazon Prime Video. The action takes place across the city against a backdrop of warring drug cartels, marking a significant change of scenery from the jungle landscape of the original. The film was released after the original Alien vs Predator comic book story was published and thus features a Xenomorph skull in one scene, the first major acknowledgement of a shared world between the two creatures.

Rent or buy Predator 2 on Amazon Prime Video. Predator star Shane Black stepped behind the camera for this recent revival of the franchise, set in present day suburban America, where a team of soldiers take on a pair of Predators after they kidnap a young boy.

While highly anticipated prior to release, The Predator saw a very mixed reception from fans and critics alike, ultimately failing to make a dent at the box office.
